He was predeceased by: his parents, Paul C. Unger and Lucille Miller; his wife JoAnn Marie Unger; and his brother Robert Lee Unger (Brittany Fairman). He is survived by: his children, Gary W. Unger (JoAnn), Brian L. Unger (Kathy) and Kimberly K. Gordon (Scott); his grandchildren, Krista Blaylock (Randall), Kasie Gordon (Daniel), Courtney Carroll (Kevin) and Annie Whetzel; his great grandchildren, Tristan, Tanner, Tyler, Aria, Aleeyah, Avion and Alikai; and his siblings, Larry W. Unger, Ella Mae "Cissy" Brown of Martinsburg and Deborah "Susie" Grove of Martinsburg. He is also survived by grandchildren and great grandchildren.
