She was predeceased by: her parents, Silas Myers Mongold and Vertie Elizabeth Hinkle Mongold; her former husband Elmer "Slim" George; and her husband Isaac VanMeter. She is survived by: her children, Jerry George, Ronnie George (Tammy), Clifton George and Carolyn George Carr (Bun); and her sisters, Mable Dove, Mary Dove, Shirley Boland and Ruth Mongold. She is also survived by six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
