He was predeceased by : his parents, Walter Nelson Runion and Bessie Taylor Thompson Runion. He is survived by : his wife Betty Lou See Runion; and his children, Sterling E. Runion (Melissa Hamilton), William D. Runion (La Donna), Elijah M. Runion, Brenda L. Sweitzer, Cherry L. Hammons, Betty K. Hoge (Eric) and Penny L. Sites (Phil Vance). He is also survived by sixteen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, April 24th 2024 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Fraley Funeral Chapel (107 Washington St, Moorefield, WV 26836). A funeral service was held on Thursday, April 25th 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the same location.
