He was predeceased by: his parents, Goldie Kennedy Messenger and William Jennings Messenger; his wife Brenda Cunningham Messenger; and his sons, Richard and Gregory (Susan).
He is survived by: his children, Robert, Ronald (Denise) and Carla Shuman (Jeffrey); and his grandchildren, Leeann Messenger, Jesse Messenger, Jacob Messenger (Sierra), Haley Walker (Reid), Allison Messenger and Chandler Messenger.
