He was predeceased by: his parents, George Leonard Sr. and Michiko Hara Schaefer; and his wife Ellen Jeannette Knotts Schaefer. He is survived by: his siblings, Mary Ann Schaefer, Irene Collins (Allen) and George L. Schaefer Jr. (Kim). He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
