He was predeceased by: his parents, James Jennings Long and Carrie Lou West Long; his brothers, James and Roy (Ethel); and his stepson Timothy Lee Shaver.

He is survived by: his wife Linda Lou Massey Long; his children, Joetta, Victoria Edwards (Gary) of Shady Spring, Shirley Forren of Mount Hope and Robert Wesley Long Jr. of Grandview; his stepdaughters, Tammy Gibson (Charles) of Mount Hope and Brenda Criss (Ronnie) of Oak Hill; and his siblings, Tommy Long (Faye) of Marmet, Brenda, Wanda of Iowa and Margaret Jordan of Ohio.
