He was predeceased by: his parents, John "Jake" Layman and Effie Edna Mitter (Larew); his siblings, Lucille Chipps (Delbert), Wilma McNeill (Carl), Lyle Vance Mitter and Gerald Mitter (Elizabeth "Tib"); his half-brother Garner Larew (Dorothy); and his brother-in-law Charles Plum.
He is survived by: his children, Larry Mitter (Barbara) of Louisa, VA, Loretta Lyons (Rick) and Rick Mitter (April) of Marion, IL; his grandchildren, Thomas Mitter (Susan), Fellowsville, Janice Roof (David) of Louisa, VA and Chris Mitter (Sarah) of Marion, IL; his great grandchildren, Ronin Roof, Jacob Mitter and Madelyn Mitter; and his sister Marcina Plum. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
