It is with great sadness that we announce the death of James Layton Athey of Nutter Fort, West Virginia, who passed away on December 9, 2025, at the age of 87, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, James Layton Sr. and Filomena Maria Marra (Flora). He is survived by: his children, John Athey (Deby) of Clarksburg, Steve Athey (Bernice) of Naples, FL and Gina Palmer (Brian) of Clarksburg; his grandchildren, Steve Athey of Erie, PA, Scott Athey of Clarksburg, Bayley Matthey (Zach) of Morgantown and Kelsey Drummond (Christian) of Clarksburg; and his great grandchildren, Sutton Drummond of Clarksburg and Clay Matthey of Morgantown.
