He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles B. Gibson and Helen Woolwine Gibson; and his siblings, Carla Roberts, Starla Powell, Stanton Gibson, Chris Gibson and Brent Gibson.

He is survived by: his son Matthew Gibson; his grandchildren, Peter Gibson, Charlie Gibson and Andrew Gibson; and his brother Charles Gibson, Jr..
