He was predeceased by: his parents, Virgil H. McDonald and Virginia McDonald; his wife Carol June McDonald (Greathouse); his brother Virgil McDonald Jr.; and his son-in-law Jerry Alawat.

He is survived by: his children, Danny McDonald (Helen), Debbie Alawat, Doug McDonald and Denise Spanelli (Steve); his sister Carla Stoops; and his grandchildren, Jason Hayes (Lindsay), Amanda Deem (Jason), Danette Stutler (Justin), Kerri Hofmann (John), Kristi Moser (Mark), Matthew McDonald (Jessica), Emily Bryan (Chad), Shelly Sharp, Missy Wedenoja, Andrea Alawat Rittgers and Mica Krigbaum. He is also survived by 20 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, 2900 N. Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.
