Joyce Bokey Obituary
Eva Joyce (Jones) Bokey, age 73, a resident of Philippi, departed this life in the comfort of her home on Sunday, June 21, 2026, after a hard-fought six year battle with breast cancer. She was born on October 21, 1952, in Barbour County, a daughter of the late Howard Gail Moore and Loudenna Louise (Daugherty) Moore.
On October 23, 1970, she married the love of her life, Robert "Mike" Bokey, Sr., who survives at home.
Also surviving to cherish her memory: Son, Robert "Mike" Bokey, Jr. and wife, Andrea of Bridgeport;Daughter, Melissa Dawn Bokey and her better half, Daniel Rector of Philippi;Grandsons, Ezik Norris and wife, Brittany of Philippi;Devin Bokey and wife, Taylor of Fairmont;Granddaughters, Bronwyn Riffle and husband, Koda of Buckhannon;Heather Bokey and fiancée, McCoy of Bridgeport;Great grandchildren, Kylar Neville, Madelyn "Maddy" Bokey, Bentley Riffle and Salem Riffle;Special sister, Roseanna Jordan of Westminster, MD, In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, William Eugene Jones.
Joyce graduated from Philip Barbour High School, class of 1970. She worked in many places throughout her life, including Davis Drug Store as a pharmacy technician, the Federal Bureau of Investigation as a criminal records file clerk, Sodexo at Alderson Broaddus University, and most recently, the Barbour County Courthouse as a deputy circuit clerk.
In her younger years, Joyce enjoyed traveling, riding motorcycles with her husband and going on many camping trips and boat outings with her family. She also enjoyed sewing, working around the house and listening to oldies music. Joyce was strong-willed and courageous, carrying forward a legacy of strong women, whose example helped shape her character. Her resilience and hard work ethic were second to none. She made many friends throughout the years, all of whom she deeply loved.
Joyce's special delight was getting to spend holidays with her family, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas. She worked tirelessly to make sure no one left her home hungry or empty-handed. Her homemade meals, pies, cookies and cakes, along with decorations and wide array of gifts made every holiday special for her children and grandchildren. After her cancer diagnosis in 2020, Joyce dedicated her life to Jesus Christ and remained a faithful believer until her passing.
Friends will be received at Kittle Family Funeral Home, 265 Beech Avenue, Philippi, WV, on Wednesday, June 24, 2026 from 6:00-8:00pm, and again on Thursday, June 25, 2026 from 9:00am until 11:00am, the funeral hour, with the Rev. Ezik Norris officiating. Interment will follow in the West Virginia National Cemetery, Grafton, WV.
