Velma Jean Shaffer Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Velma Jean Shaffer (Philippi, West Virginia), who passed away on January 20, 2026 at the age of 93. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

She was predeceased by: her parents, Arthur Matlick and Arizonia Matlick (Wolfe); her husband Karl; her son-in-law Tom Halfin; and her siblings, Howard, Harold Matlick, Hazel Zinn, Lucille Knotts and Elsie Shingleton.

She is survived by: her children, Joyce Halfin of Mt. Clare, Randy Shaffer (Becky) of Philippi, K. J. Shaffer (Cathy) of Marietta, Georgia, Shelley Sergent (Steve) of Mechanicsville, Virginia and Rodney Shaffer (Shirley) of Philippi; and her grandchildren, Jay Shaffer, Josh Halfin, Jeremy Halfin, Cassandra Pratt, Kody Shaffer, Jaron Shaffer, Whitney Guthrie, Tara Whetsel, Sonya Stahl, Dylan Shaffer, Erica Marsh and Andrew Sergent. She is also survived by 22 great-grandchildren.
