He was predeceased by: his parents, John Martin and Ruth George Martin; his grandchildren, Joe Smallwood and Desiree Martin; his siblings, John Harry Martin (Jane), Robert Martin and Connie Gorman (Jim); and his son-in-law Charles "Pickle" Smallwood.
He is survived by: his sister-in-law Anita Martin of Bluefield, WV.. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, sixteen great‑grandchildren, and two great‑great‑grandchildren.
