He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter Lee Hickman and Ola Mae Preston; his adoptive parents, Rev. Robert Tate and Evangelist Ruth Tate; his aunt Bernice; his uncle Major Kelly; and his siblings, Harry Brutus Preston and Patricia Olivia Bennett.
He is survived by: his wife Everlean Tate; his children, Angela Stevens, Kimberly Preston, Kali Preston-Arocho (Eddie), Reginald Akins, Tremane Tate (Sarah) and La'Kesha Tate (Staccotta); his cousin Lisa Coffield; and his sibling's children, Emmanuel Bennet and Mina Gray. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
