He was predeceased by: his parents, James Skiles and Cora Skiles; his wife Vera Skiles; and his siblings, Denny, Bill Skiles, Betty-Jo and Minna Lea.

He is survived by: his son Mark Skiles; his daughter-in-law Debbie; his daughters, Kim Hatfield (Skiles) and Pamela Hilliard (Matthew); and his grandchildren, Tyler Skiles, Tucker Skiles, Jessica Kidder (Robert Kidder), Khristian Hatfield, Kaylee Hilliard-Van Grouw (Nathanal) and Erika Hilliard (Austin Gwinn). He is also survived by Four great-grandchildren.

An entombment was held on Monday, August 31st 2026 at 1:00 PM at the Blue Ridge Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice of Southern West Virginia in Gene's memory.
