He was predeceased by: his parents, James Hubert Stephens and Jeanette Marie Stephens; his wife Roberta Stephens; and his siblings, Eloise Moore, Blanche Morgan, Emmagene Buffington and James Stephens.
He is survived by: his daughters, Theresa McKown (Tim) of Cottageville and Brenda Schenck (Dan) of Groveport, Ohio; his sister Shirley Easter of Ripley; his grandchildren, Candice McElhaney (Matt) of Hyattsville, Cassandra McKown of Charleston and Jesse Schenck of Leonardtown, Maryland.; and his great grandchildren, Lucy, Clare and Sophia McElhaney.
Visitation was held on Saturday, October 17th 2026 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Roush Funeral Home (205 S Ritchie Ave, Ravenswood, WV 26164). A funeral service was held on Saturday, October 17th 2026 at 1:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to the Jackson County Animal Shelter, 86 County Farm Road, Cottageville, WV 25239, or Kanawha Hospice, 1606 Kanawha Boulevard West, Charleston, WV 25387, in honor of Richard's memory.
