He was predeceased by: his parents, Lloyd Abel and Inez Abel. He is survived by: his wife Jean Vandergrift; his children, Debbie Thaxton (Tom), Tim Abel (Jodi) and Mike Abel (Marcy); his grandchildren, Jason, Justin Thaxton, Jeff McPherson, Mark, Jenn Abel, Ryan Abel, Allison Schutte, Coty Giles and Brad Allen; and his sister Jeanie McDaniels of Phillip, WV..
