He was predeceased by: his parents, Ruben Jackson and Melba Fern Lee Friend; and his siblings, Almetta Andrew, William "Coy" Friend, Calvin Friend, Henry Friend and Donald Friend.
He is survived by: his sons, Luke Friend of Rock Cave, Randy Friend of Rock Cave, James Friend of Rock Cave and Matthew Friend (Brenda) of Buckhannon; his grandchildren, Nina Westfall, Bethany Friend, Nathaniel Friend, Brandy Caynor, Kayla Bouscher, Trina Rutherford and Kara Bellen; his great grandchildren, K. C. Westfall, Blaine Westfall and Isabella Friend; and his siblings, Daniel Friend (Eva) of Rock Cave and Carol R.. He is also survived by twelve step great grandchildren.
