He was predeceased by : his parents, Lawrence Burl and Tressie Louise Forrester Cottrill; and his siblings, David Cottrill, Robert Forrester, Lawrence Cottrill and Rhea Richards.

He is survived by : his wife Julie Lynn Gore Cottrill; his children, Timothy Cottrill (Janie), Gregory Cottrill, Christopher "Kit" Cottrill, Tina Cottrill and Kristen Cooley (Derek); his grandchildren, Joshua, Kylee, Dylan, Colton, Taylor, Kennedi, Lucas, Ty and Quinten; his great grandchildren, Ezra, Eloise, Josie, Ripken, Rawlins and Paisley; and his brothers, James Cottrill (Phyllis), Salem, Roger Cottrill and Rodney Cottrill (Vicki). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
