He was predeceased by: his parents, Jonas Tyler and Destia Carpenter Tyler; his son James Anthony "Jimmy" Tyler; and his daughters-in-law, Darla Posey and Ella Louise Walls.
He is survived by: his son John M. Tyler (Donna Sue Deem) of Nutter Fort; his grandchildren, Cody Alexander Tyler of Clarksburg and Catherine Elizabeth Tyler of Clarksburg; his great grandchildren, Darla Tyler of Clarksburg and Kayla Tyler of Clarksburg; his siblings, Robert "Thurman" Tyler (Carlene Wright) of Good Hope and Linda Stickel of Stonewood; his close friend Robert Leonard of Mt. Clare; Kaitlyn and Alexander of Stonewood. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
