He was predeceased by: his parents, Houchen Murphy and Sadie Murphy (Mayhorn); his wife Diane Murphy; his daughter-in-law Angela Murphy; and his siblings, Jimmy Murphy, Thias "Duboy" Murphy, Margie Ellis, Annie Murphy, Faye Hutcheson, Thelma Fitch and Bonnie Hutcheson.
He is survived by: his children, Jamie Michael Murphy of Thacker, WV, Jonathan Ray Murphy (Berlynna Jackson) of Thacker, WV and Tammy Carol Sizemore (Danny) of North Carolina; his sister Lorretta Mayhorn of Newtown, WV.; his grandchildren, Destiny, Danea, Dalton, Cheyenne, Jonna, Sarah and Johnny Jr.; and his great grandchildren, Naomi, Phenix, Paisley and Westyn.
