He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles L. Thomas and Edna R. Smith Thomas; his former wife Karen Helmick Thomas; his siblings, Patricia Thomas and Edwin Thomas; and his granddaughter Emily Spencer.

He is survived by: his wife Hope Thomas; and his children, David Thomas (Sherry) of Finksburg, MD, Jon Thomas (Tina) of Bowling Green, KY, Tim Thomas (Karen) of Craigsville, VA, Paul Thomas (Kayo) of Chula Vista, CA, Wil Helmick (Mendy) of Belpre, OH and Sandra McQueen (Troy) of Lawrenceville, GA. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren; five great grandchildren.
