He was predeceased by: his parents, Betty Jo and Pearl Leon Dennis; and his sister Vicki Joe Gheen. He is survived by: his wife Mary Margaret Dennis; his children, Carson Matthew, Douglas Paul Jr., Jacob Christopher and Hannah Marie; his siblings, Rev. James Leon Dennis (Myra) and Saundra Jean Watkins (Jack); his nephew Patrick Gheen (Vicki); and his friend Mark Mckinnis.
