He was predeceased by: his parents, Ralph A. Harper and Lula Bell Drennen Harper; and his brother David Harper. He is survived by: his wife Sherial Metheney; his son John Allen Harper; his stepsons, Robert Lee Metheney and Joshua Dalton Matheney; his brothers, Ralph Harper and Daniel Harper; his grandchildren, Dalton, Gabby, Sarah, Mahala, Jennalee and Madison; and his great grandchildren, Jensen and Atlas. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
