He was predeceased by: his parents, William Bates and Lillian Bates; and his brother Rory Bates. He is survived by: his wife Dawn Marie Bates; his children, Tehla Bates-Stayer (Donnie) of Cheyenne, Dustin Bates (Kimberly Britten) of Cheyenne and Travis Bates (Sara) of Cheyenne; his siblings, Sherrill Humphreys (Ron) of Cheyenne, Michael Bates of Loveland, Brett Bates (Lennybae) of Cheyenne and David Bates (Melissa) of Gettysburg, Maryland; and his grandchildren, Dacoda, Travion and Lincoln. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
