“I went to school with Wayne. He was a really good guy who was always there to help others. He made friends easily and had a good sense of humor. I will never forget the time he dropped by my house after he enlisted and was stationed at Bolling AFB, Washington, DC. He was so proud to wear the uniform and serve our country. I lost track of Wayne, but found him in February while searching for classmates for our 45th class reunion. Wayne and I had a few conversations during the spring and early summer, but I knew he was tired and it took a lot of effort for him to keep the conversations going. However, the last conversation we had, he told me about his scan and what they had found. He and I both knew his time was growing very short and he was take it one day at a time. I am glad that I had the opportunity to locate him and share some news about his former classmates. I am only too sorry that we didn't reconnect over the years...however, I am very glad to see he had so many friends that remember him and were there for him. Wayne (the Duke), RIP. You will be sorely missed.”
