He was predeceased by: his father Carl Nelson; his wife Karen Nate Nelson; his mother Margaret Ferguson Nelson; and his siblings, Dorothy, Vivian, Margaret, Patty, Nora, Carl and Jane.

He is survived by: his children, Scott Nelson (Cindy), Shawn Nelson, Kristin Nelson (Scott Sleater) and Chad Nelson; his grandchildren, Anna Crawford (Jonathon), Chris Nelson (Becca) and Isabella Nelson; and his great grandchildren, Ethan, Ava and Calvin. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
