He was predeceased by: his parents, Catherine Lauretta Lindsay and Wiffen Delbert Bateman; his former wife Alice Valene Thorn; his wife Doreen Sant Smith; his son James Rex; and his grandchildren, Christopher Bateman and Jodi Lee Baker Norwood.
He is survived by: his sister Verdena Bunderson; and his children, Nolan Bateman (Joy), Claudia Baker (Don), Marilyn Weber (Robert), Tammy Bell (Steve), Marsha Mitchell (Morgan), Tara Holm (Corey), Richard Bateman (Brenda), Tim Bateman (Wendy), Steven Bateman (Becky), Rosemary Sellers and Jeni Fetkavich (Craig). He is also survived by 58 grandchildren, 73 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
