He was predeceased by: his parents, Dick Schafer and Lois Ann Schafer (Dickson); his father-in-law Jim Peterson; and his brothers-in-law, Lonny Peterson, Steve Grimes and Rex Johnsen.
He is survived by: his wife Lori of Veteran; his children, Seth Schafer (Ashley) of Comanche, TX and Callie Schafer; his grandchildren, Oakley and Payson; his stepmother Diane Schafer of Cheyenne, WY; his siblings, Greg (Louise) of Pahrump, NV, Kurt (Lisa), Mike (Patty) of Muncie, IN and Kirsten (Christopher) of Marengo, IL; his mother-in-law Mary Peterson of Modale, IA; and his sisters-in-law, Lanette Grimes of Spirit Lake, IA, Lorraine Thomas (Barry) of Modale, IA and Louanne Dietrich (Al) of Blue Eye, MO. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
