With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Akil Yusef Aziz of Lafayette, Louisiana, who passed away on December 1, 2025 at the age of 76. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
In the hush of twilight, as the stars twinkle in silent homage, we reflect on the legacy Akil leaves behind and his impact on the lives of his loved ones. Though Akil may no longer walk among us, his spirit lives on in the memories held dear by his family and friends, a guiding light that illuminates their paths in times of darkness.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Larry Smith, Sr. and Thelma Jones Smith; Larry Smith, Jr.. He is survived by: his children, Renee White (Troy) of Scott, LA, Gerald Smith, Jr. and Jabari Aziz (Shelly) of Carencro, LA; and his siblings, Ronnie Smith, Sr. (Barbara) of Missouri City, TX, Charles Smith, Sr. (Leanna) of Rosharon, TX and Gwendolyn S. Francis (Allen) of New Iberia, LA. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Visitation was held on Saturday, December 6th 2025 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the First Jerusalem Baptist Church (835 Monnot Rd, Jeanerette, LA 70544). A celebration of life was held on Saturday, December 6th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
