He was predeceased by: his parents, Jane and Colbert, Sr.; and his pet Saggio. He is survived by: his wife Alice; his sons, John and Phillip; his daughter-in-law Alison; and his grandsons, Jake and Will.

In lieu of flowers, his family suggests donating in his memory to Wesleyan University or the Joslin Diabetes Center.
