Patricia Kempton wrote a sympathy message

“To the family...george and i went to tufts university together. He was astute and very insightful in helping us negotiate with the university in helping us establish the african american cultural house. Now the center has evolved into the africana department. You can receive a degree in africana studies!!! He was a quiet man, but when he spoke people listened. He has left an amazing footprint with people and institutions that he touched.
