He was predeceased by: his parents, John William, Sr. and Marguerite Whelan (McCormack). He is survived by: his wife Mary Ann Whelan (Hewitt); his daughters, Deirdre Woytek and Caitlin Whelan (Scott Mabel); his siblings, Frank, Chuck, Jerry (Julie) and Joan Pozner (Jeff); and his grandchildren, Magnus and Katie Woytek. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their children.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Shriners Hospital for Children.
