He was predeceased by: his parents, Areatha Hamilton and Robert Lee Spruill; his son Maurice Toomer; his stepson Mark Patterson; and his siblings, Linwood "Lin" Toomer, Joyce Toomer and Ervin.
He is survived by: his children, Quartisha Smith, Jonisha Toomer, Latisha Toomer, John Toomer, Jr., Shawtrise Toomer, Teresa Toomer, Dreama Wiley and Shay Toomer; his aunt Annie Mae Hamilton; and his sisters, Maryann Toomer and Shirleyann Toomer. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; 8 nieces; 9 nephews, many cherished friends, and a host of additional relatives.
