Duncan G. Carter Obituary

Duncan Gage Carter age 92 of Kalamazoo passed away Tuesday evening, May 5, 2026. Duncan was born in Kalamazoo on October 3, 1933, the son of Homer L. J. and Winifred (Gage) Carter. On February 18, 1956, he married Suzanne Sawyer who preceded him in death in 2004.

Duncan attended State High School and Western Michigan University, where his father was a professor. He proudly served his nation in the United States Navy. Duncan worked at First National Bank as Vice President of Charge Accounts.

Later he worked as a business consultant. He was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church where he was baptized and still served as an usher at the 8:00 a.m. service. He was also active in the Salvation Army for over 50 years.

He and Suzanne worked on many projects together. They loved travelling in their RV. Duncan loved a good dish of ice cream.

He loved having conversations around the table and solving the world's problems. He was an excellent listener and his advice was always golden. His children feel like they had the best dad in the world,.

They are grateful to him for always making them feel loved and appreciated, and for always being present to listen to them. Duncan is survived by his children Christopher (Susan) Carter of Hamilton, Colette (Robert) Needham of Scotts, and Cynthia (Jeff) Kelly of Lawrence; grandchildren, Nicole (Matt) Quinn, Brady Needham, Amanda (Darren) Carter-Wisinski, Katelin (Ryan) Cowherd, Savanah (Levi) Sleeuwenhoek, Christopher (Trista) Kelly, Lourin (Carlos) Torres, and Austin (Deb) Kelly; several great-grandchildren; and many friends. Besides his wife, Duncan was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lee (Doris) Carter; sister, Joan (Joe) Archambault.
