We announce the death of Herbert Lavonne Smith of Kalamazoo, Michigan, born in Hamden, Ohio, who passed away on September 2, 2026, at the age of 91. Herbert will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Smith and Helen Smith; his wife Shirley; and his siblings, John, Fred, Erma, Roberta and Mary.
He is survived by: his children, Robert Smith (Anne), Karen Chappelow (Keith) and David Smith; his brother Roger Smith (Pam); and his sister-in-law Sharon Smith. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Sunday, September 20th 2026 at 2:30 PM at the Kalamazoo Community of Christ Church (2523 Amherst Ave, Kalamazoo, MI 49008). A celebration of life was held on Sunday, September 20th 2026 at 4:00 PM at the same location.
