Friends will be received 10 to 11 am Thursday March 5, 2026, at Joldersma & Klein Funeral Home where services will follow at 11 am with Rev. Thomas Davenport officiating. Interment will be in Ft. Custer National Cemetery following at 1 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to Kalamazoo County Jail Ministry or Centrica Care Navigators Hospice c/o the funeral home.
Age 76, of Kalamazoo passed away Tuesday February 24, 2026, at Friendship Village. Jack was born October 14, 1949, in Grand Rapids the son of Donald and Mildred (VanderPloeg) Bauer. He was a graduate of South High School in Grand Rapids and Grand Valley State University and was a Veteran of the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Jack retired from the Portage Police Department in 2015, and he enjoyed playing chess, reading the New York Times, bird watching, traveling and spending time with his grandson. On December 27, 1975, in Grand Rapids Jack was united in marriage to Deborah (Heeres) Bauer who survives. Also surviving are three children, Megan Bauer, Sean (Karen) Bauer, Andrew Bauer; grandson, Colin Simonds; five sisters, Maureen (Randy) Eckhardt, Bonnie (Ron) Parks, Valerie (Ken) Patterson, Janice (Art) Schmude, Donna (Clark) Folkert. He was preceded in death by his parents.
