She was predeceased by: her father Homer Lee Echols; her husband Robert C. Carter; her mother Annie Pearl Echols; her grandson Neiman Pratt; her niece Tiombi Cooper; and her brother-in-law Elder Alanzo Hurt.

She is survived by: her children, Tayna Parker (John), Carolyn Wilson (James), Camilla Johnson, Ida Carter, Rolanda Carter and Cornondre Carter (Sharmia); her grandchildren, Idaisha Carter, Edward Potts, James Wilson II, Itorria Carter, Aliyah Carter, Laniyah Carter, Cornondre Carter Jr., Aubrey Boyd, Draya Carter and Skye Carter; and her siblings, Teresa Echols of Kalamazoo, Michael Echols of Kalamazoo, Wanda Hurt of Kalamazoo and Kelvine Echols (Tanya) of Kalamazoo.
