It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Janice Patricia Ellens (Kalamazoo, Michigan), who passed away on March 29, 2026, at the age of 85, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Nellie Hoekstra (Sikkema) and Egbert "Ed" Hoekstra; and her brother Gerald Hoekstra. She is survived by: her husband Serenus "Sy" Ellens; her brother John Hoekstra; her sister-in-law Sheryl Hoekstra; her stepson Tim Ellens (Jeanne Evenhouse); her son Marc Ellens (Julie DeJager); her grandchildren, Tahnee and Nate Kuder; and her children, Jorie, Jesse Antuma, Troy, Rebecca Ellens, Karys, Daniel Rounds, Serena and Sam DeKryger. She is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Jan's memory are invited to make contributions to the Kalamazoo Christian School Association, where she faithfully invested her gifts in Christian education, or to Park Village Pines, where she continued her ministry of encouragement and spiritual care in her later years.
