Jerry Vern Bishop age 87, passed away at Bronson Hospital on June 25, 2026. He was born in Kalamazoo on April 15, 1939, the son of the late Arthur and Emma (Widmeyer) Bishop. After graduating from high school, he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged and returned to make Southwest Michigan his home. On Oct. 26, 1962, he married the love of his life Darby (Engwis-Bontrager) Bishop and began a family. Jerry was a hard worker and in 1966 began a lifelong career at GM, retiring after more than thirty years. When not working he loved spending time outdoors. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and mushroom hunter. He never missed a chance to escape to the family cabin in Peacock. He also enjoyed riding on three wheelers. In his later years Jerry enjoyed reading the newspaper and listening to country music. Above all Jerry loved being a father and grandfather and he leaves behind the legacy of a life well lived. He is survived by his only son, Bruce Bishop; grandchildren, Kody and Kaley Bishop; brothers, Joseph and Arthur Bishop; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He was also preceded in passing by his wife Darby.
