Marjorie M. Meier Obituary

A funeral service to honor her life and Lord will be held at Joldersma and Klein Funeral Home on Saturday, September 12, 2026, beginning at 11:00 a.m. The family will welcome friends at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 11, 2026, and at 10:00 a.m., one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or the Calvinist Cadet Corps, c/o the funeral home.

Marge Meier went to be with her Lord on September 7, 2026. Marge was born in Holland, MI on May 26, 1940, to Fred and Margaret (Wiegerink) Schurman. She graduated from Holland Christian Schools and completed a BA in Education at Calvin University. Marge taught second grade at South Christian Grade School on John St in Kalamazoo, MI until she met and married John P. Meier on April 12, 1966. Together they raised two children, daughter Lauret "Lauri" and son Daniel "Danny". John preceded her in death in April 2012. Marge was extremely involved with her son Danny who was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at six months of age, becoming his advocate and caregiver until his death at age fourteen in 1989. While her children were young, she operated a day care in her home, caring for many small children. For many years she served Milwood CRC as the nursery coordinator for children during Coffee Break Bible Study. She also volunteered in the Kalamazoo Christian school libraries and then worked as a library assistant at Kalamazoo Christian Elementary from 2001-2017, when health challenges led to her retirement. For twenty-four years Marge served as the librarian at her church, Milwood CRC, and conducted summer reading programs for children. During her stay at Park Village Pines in 2017-2018, she spent several months organizing and maintaining the library for senior residents. Marge now experiences the joy of being reunited with her beloved husband and son as well as an infant daughter, Laurel, who also preceded her to Heaven. Marge is survived by her daughter Lauri, grandson Tyler; brother Paul (Marilyn) Schurman; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, George and Donna Meier; three nieces and one nephew and their families, extended family and best friend Lois (Gerb) Oosterbaan and their extended families.
