Michael Lee Lucas Obituary

Cremation will take place and Michael will be laid to rest at Ft. Custer National Cemetery on Friday, March 13, 2026, at 11:00 AM (please arrive at the Ft. Custer assembly drive at 10:45 AM). Memorial contributions may be made to the Kalamazoo Humane Society, c/o the funeral home.

Michael Lee Lucas, age 77, of Kalamazoo, passed away on February 19, 2026, at Alamo Cove Nursing Center surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Reed City, MI, on November 10, 1948, the son of the late Donald and Gladys (Draper) Lucas. After graduating high school Michael enlisted in the US Army. After being honorably discharged he returned to make Southwest Michigan his home. He was united in marriage to the love of his life Shirlee (Debois) Lucas who preceded him in passing in 2015. They began a family and worked hard to provide a happy home where all were made to feel welcome. Michael lived his life to the fullest. He had a deep love for animals, especially his pet dogs. He was a hockey fan and loved catching games when he could. He also enjoyed going to outdoor concerts and playing euchre with friends. He believed in the Lord and attended Kalamazoo Community Church. He was also a member of a variety of American Legion's and VFW halls. Above all Michael loved his family and friends and will be missed by those closest to him. He is survived by his loving daughter, Denise (Rick Hiatt) Lucas; estranged son, Richard Lucas; grandchildren, Michael Morrow, Malakhi Morrow and Kenzie Adams; great-grandchildren, Eleanor Farwana and Adam Pressley; siblings, Scott (Jody) Lucas, Mitchell Lucas, Cindy Choponis; in-law, Christine Lucas; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He was also preceded in passing by a brother, Steven Lucas; companion, Lynne Wolfe.
