Paul A. Meulman Obituary
A service in witness to Paul's life and faith will be held on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, beginning at 11:00 am, at Westwood Christian Reformed Church, 620 Northampton Rd., Kalamazoo, MI 49006. Friends may call on the family beginning at 10:00 am, one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial Contributions may be made to Kalamazoo Christian Schools, c/o the funeral home.
Age 85, of Kalamazoo, passed away at Henry Ford Hospital on Saturday, August 23, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Paul was born in Kalamazoo on December 26, 1939, the son of Reint and Helen (Kramer) Meulman. On July 21, 1961, Paul married Jena L. Gruizenga, who survives him. Paul was a graduate of Kalamazoo Christian High School and received his Bachelor and Master degrees from Western Michigan University. He worked for over 33 years as a Research Chemist for the Upjohn Company and Pharmacia. There he analyzed new chemical entities and drug candidates. He also spent time working at A.M. Todd Company. Kalamazoo Public Library and DV Builders. Paul loved to give his time and talents to many organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, World Renew, Helps Outreach and Second Impressions. Paul enjoyed genealogy, photography, woodworking, fishing and exercising, especially water skiing. Paul was a "behind the scenes" kind of guy, never wanting to call attention to himself. He and Jena enjoyed travelling and they made trips to Alaska, Israel, Florida and many of the United States National Parks. Faith was central to Paul's life and he was an active member Westwood Christian Reformed Church. Paul loved his family and was especially proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren with whom he loved spending time. He made many special memories with his family that will be forever remembered. Besides his wife, Paul is survived by his daughter, Patti (Steve) Ticknor; grandchildren Brooke (Isaac) Laroy, Breanne (Mike) Keller, Christopher (Jasmine) DeKleine, Marissa (Matt) Kiella, and Matt (Charlotte) Ticknor; great grandchildren, Annaliese, Emmy, Gemma, Jett, Ruby, Corben and Evie; sister, Joyce Alphenaar; nieces and nephews; and many, many friends. Paul was preceded in death by his parents' a daughter, Lori DeKleine; and a brother-in-law, Ken Alphenaar; sister-in-law, Sandy Modderman.
