He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter Chmiel and Pauline Chmiel (Moskalik); his wife Patricia Margaret Luckey; his siblings, Leona Yoder, Phil Chmiel and Julie Klein; and his brothers-in-law, Gary Boris and Ron Hubek.

He is survived by: his children, Paul Chmiel (Lorie) and Sherri Martin (Chuck); his grandchildren, Craig Chmiel (Hillary), Jordan Chmiel, Andrew Martin and Danny Martin; his great grandchild Chase Chmiel; his sisters, Stephanie Boris and Rosemary Hubek; and his brother-in-law Michael Klein. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the West Michigan Cancer Center.
