He was predeceased by: his parents, J. V. Porter Carpenter and Pauline Ross Carpenter; his wife Jeanette Spicer Carpenter; and his sisters, Grace Carpenter Gurley and Carolyn Carpenter.
He is survived by: his sons, Joe, Joey (Deitra), Jeff (Lisa) and Jay (Deborah); and his siblings, Brenda Wilson (Stephen), Marlene Lovelace, Boyce Carpenter and Ron Carpenter. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Mt. Vernon Baptist Church handicap ramp fund.
