With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Jay Strayer of Rutherfordton, North Carolina, who passed away on January 7, 2026 at the age of 86. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Warren A. Strayer and Margaret K. Smith Strayer; and his sister Marjorie J. Straub. He is survived by: his children, Tammy Jean Alvarez (Lee), Julia Ann Calkins (Art) and Jayson Dee Strayer (Elizabeth); his sister Cathy Stahl; and his grandchildren, Alex, Cyndi, Jacob, Kevin (Lindsay), Kyle (Mary), Oliver, Dylan, Maddie and Waylan.
