He was predeceased by: his parents, Ray Govus and Marie Govus. He is survived by: his pets, Ernie, Malarky, Chester, Badger, Griswold and Fergus; his wife Dale; his daughters, Megan Keefe and Lillian; his sons-in-law, Ryan Harrison and Karl Lipke; his grandchildren, Etta Bea and Miles Harrison; and his siblings, David, Thomas, George and Andrea Suggs.

In lieu of flowers, Steve's family asks that you hang a birdfeeder, enjoy a beautiful hike, go fishing, eat some oysters, read a great book, support live local music, visit your local farmers market, or all of the above. Donations in his memory can be made to the Foothills Conservancy of Western North Carolina or the Shepherd Center.
