He was predeceased by: his parents, Herluf G. Mikkelsen and Hope Mikkelsen (Barbara "Babs"); his son John; his grandson Alex Heidrich; his brothers, Norman Mikkelsen, Lynn Mikkelsen and Cameron Mikkelsen; and his in-laws, Russell W. and Helena Webster (Rutten).
He is survived by: his children, Debbie Nelson (Greg Konzak), Cindy Heidrich (Tony), Jim Mikkelsen (Leslie) and Barbara Gross (John); and his sister Marit Petrek (Gary). He is also survived by 14 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; one adorable great great grandson.
A graveside service was held on Friday, November 28th 2025 at 1:30 PM at the Devils Lake Cemetery.
