He is survived by: his wife Patricia Hjelden; his children, Kathy Schwols (Charles), Wendy Lawrence (Pat), Pamela Ross (Rickey) and Douglas Hjelden; his grandchildren, Sarah Schwols, Emily Schwols, Seth Schwols (Winona), Jessica Hjelden, Patrick Burris (Kerri), Amie DeMontigny (Kenton), Josh Elverud, Marcus Lawrence (Rose), Riley Lawrence (Amanda), Callie Lawrence (Kala), Krystal Harrison (Shad), Amanda Lusby (Paul), Brianna Archer and Kami Hjelden; and his sisters, Barbara Solberg (Al) and Marlene Petri.
A funeral service was held on Friday, September 11th 2026 at 1:00 PM at the Leeds Lutheran Church (250 1st Ave SE, Leeds, ND 58346).
