As we bid Karen farewell, let us not mourn the absence of her physical form, but rather celebrate the essence of her spirit that lingers in the spaces between moments. For Karen is not truly gone, but merely transformed, her energy intertwined with the fabric of the universe itself, forever dancing among the stars.

She was predeceased by: her mothers, Audrey Henke and Opal Henke (Hull); her brother Gary; and her former husband Gary Knouf. She is survived by: her husband Rick Melchert of Trenton; her daughter Dawn Lannigan (Don) of McCook; her grandson Alec Record of McCook; her stepchildren, Brett Melchert (Melissa) of Culbertson and Kara Duncan (Reilly) of Hudson, Kansas; and her sisters, Joyce Pennington of Hastings and Cheryl Chandler (Clark) of Lincoln. She is also survived by cousins, nieces, nephews, bonus grandchildren, and dear friends.
